Ex-rental sales lets you sell your old rental bikes from your Customer Booking Page. The bikes are already in BRM, so you add a price and tick For Sale. Customers can then enquire about a bike or book a time to come and see it or test ride it. They pay in your shop, not online.
Why use it
- Little extra work: the bike's name, details and photo are already in BRM. There's no separate listing to write.
- Clear old stock: sell end-of-season bikes to make room for your new fleet, instead of keeping them in storage.
- Sell to people who know your bikes: customers who've rented a bike already know how it rides.
Turn it on
- In the side menu, under Services, find ex-Rental Sales.
- Click Activate. If it says Request instead, click it and we'll set it up for you.
- Set the times customers can book to visit: go to Settings → Scheduling → Time rules, choose your ex-rental offering and add at least one Pickup Time. These are the start times customers can choose for a viewing or test ride. Until you add one, BRM shows "No time slots are set".
List a bike for sale
- Go to Inventory and open the bike.
- Click the Buy/Sell tab.
- Tick For Sale.
- Enter the For Sale Price. If you leave it empty, customers see Price on application.
- Set the For Sale Date.
- Choose whether to tick Still allow rental while for sale. If it's ticked, the bike can still be booked for rental online on and after its For Sale Date. If it isn't, online rental bookings stop from that date.
- Optionally, add an Item Name and Item Notes (shown to buyers), such as its condition or service history.
- Click Save item.
The bike now shows on your Customer Booking Page, with its product photo. If it's still booked for upcoming rentals, BRM tells you how many.
See the bikes you're selling
In the side menu, under ex-Rental Sales, click Hub. The Ex-Rental Inventory page lists every bike you have for sale. Add items for sale takes you to Inventory.
Open a bike to change its Listing status:
- Listed: customers can see it on your booking page.
- Reserved: hidden from your booking page, for example while a buyer makes up their mind.
What customers see
Customers see your bikes for sale on your Customer Booking Page. Opening one shows its price, About this model and your item notes. From there they can:
- Enquire about this item, to ask you a question.
- Add bikes to their list, then choose Book an appointment to view or Enquire about these items. Their list says "Nothing is reserved or charged here — the store will get in touch to arrange your visit."
To book a visit, the customer chooses Viewing or Test ride, picks a day and time, enters their details and clicks Request appointment.
When a customer enquires
The enquiry is emailed to your shop notification address, and the customer gets an email confirming it. Reply to the customer by email.
When a customer books a visit
- You get an email, and the customer gets one too.
- The visit shows on your Planner as Requested. Click it to see the bikes and the customer's contact details.
- Change the Status to Confirmed, Completed or Cancelled as things move on, and use Reply by email to get in touch.
One visit covers every bike the customer chose.
When a bike sells
The customer pays you in the shop. Then take the bike off your booking page: untick For Sale on its Buy/Sell tab and click Save item, or mark the bike as sold. See Selling inventory: setting an item to sold.
Good to know
- Customers can't pay or leave a deposit online.
- Customers can't make an offer online. They can enquire, and you can agree a price with them.
- Customers can book a viewing or a test ride online, but not a collection. Arrange collection with them directly.
