Lightspeed and BRM manage different types of inventory, though they may track the same products:
Retail Inventory (Lightspeed): New products for sale.
Rental Inventory (BRM): Used products for rent.
Typically, businesses have two separate inventories—one for retail (Lightspeed) and one for rentals (BRM), each with its own IDs.
When a rental transaction occurs in Lightspeed, it’s processed under a "dummy inventory" item (e.g., 11111111111
), acting as a placeholder for rental transactions.
However, some businesses operate one inventory that's used for both sales and rentals. In this case, the same products are represented in both systems. The products may have the same ID or different IDs, but what's important is that each system can physically identify the product.
