technical detail - immediacy

this is very detailed! strictly for rental nerds if you really want to know.

When we make a reservation we record what we call immediacy.

Immediacy is a measure of when a reservation starts in relation to the present time.

Here are the options:

  • -1 historical reservation (made for a start date in the past)
  • 0  present reservation (made for now)
  • 1  future reservation (made for the future)

We do this because, of course, all reservations become historical if you give it enough time, but when it was booked does give a record of the booking experience and may be useful for diagnosing any issues.

If you're curious you can see this information in the Reservation history of any of your reservations:

Here is how a booking made for tomorrow would look, with an immediacy of '1'
