How do I add my own checkboxes to the waiver?

With Waivers 2.0 you can add your own checkboxes to the waiver, for things you want every rider to confirm before they sign. For example:

  • "I'll return the bikes by {due back}."
  • "I have watched the safety video."
  • "I'll lock the bike whenever I leave it."

Riders must tick every box before they can sign. You see what each rider ticked on the reservation.

Add checkboxes

  1. Go to Settings → General → Terms and Waivers.
  2. Choose the offering and the Language you want to add them to.
  3. Open the Waiver section. Extra checkboxes is inside it.
  4. Click Add checkbox and type the wording in Checkbox 1 wording.
  5. To show the rider their own booking's times, click Insert due-back time or Insert pickup time. This adds {due back} or {pickup} where your cursor is.
  6. Add more boxes the same way, up to 5. Use Move up, Move down and Remove to arrange them.
  7. Check the Preview. It uses sample times; riders see their own booking's pickup and due-back times.
  8. Click Save checkboxes. You'll see Checkboxes saved.

Save checkboxes saves only the checkboxes. If you've also changed the waiver text, save that with Save Waiver.

Rules for the wording

  • Up to 5 checkboxes per waiver, each up to 250 characters.
  • Plain text on one line, with no HTML.
  • Curly brackets can only hold {due back} or {pickup}, written exactly like that. If a booking has no time, the rider sees the date. If it has no date at all, they see "the end of your rental" or "the start of your rental" instead.
  • Every box is required. There's no optional checkbox.

Each offering and language has its own

Checkboxes belong to the waiver for one offering in one language. If you use more than one language, add them to each language's waiver, so every rider sees them whatever language they sign in.

If an offering uses your default offering's waiver, you'll see "This offering uses the default offering's waiver. Saving checkboxes gives this offering its own waiver, with the same text." After saving, that offering has its own copy of the waiver, and later changes to the default waiver won't reach it.

Where riders see them

The checkboxes show on the online waiver page, under your terms and waiver, after the boxes to accept them. They aren't on the kiosk or on printed waivers yet.

If you save while a rider has the page open, they're asked to read the new version and sign again: "The shop has just updated its terms or waiver. Please read the new version, then accept and sign again."

See what a rider agreed to

  1. Open the reservation and go to the Waivers tab.
  2. Click View signature on the rider's row.
  3. Under Also agreed to you see each box they ticked, worded exactly as they saw it, with their own times filled in.

If saving shows a problem

  • "Someone saved a newer version of this waiver. Reload to see it, then make your changes again." Click Reload, then add your changes again.
  • "A waiver can have up to 5 checkboxes. Remove one and save again."
  • "You do not have permission to change this waiver." Ask a user who can edit your waivers.
