How do I let customers use a discount code online?

Discount codes are switched off on the booking page by default. Until you turn them on, there is no discount box at checkout at all — so a code you've created and sent to a customer simply can't be entered. This is the usual reason a working code "doesn't exist" online.

Turn on the discount box

Go to Settings > General > Discount Codes and switch on Use discount codes.

The same setting also appears as Use Discount Codes on Settings > Customer Booking (Online) > Advanced — it's one setting shown in two places, so changing either changes both.

Create and manage your codes

Your codes live on the same page: Settings > General > Discount Codes. Add a code there and it becomes usable online as soon as the setting above is on.

What the customer sees

With the setting on, a discount field appears in the order summary at checkout. The customer types their code and applies it, and the total updates before they pay. If the code isn't valid they're told, and can try another.

Turning it off again

Switching Use discount codes off removes the discount field from your booking page, so no code can be redeemed online.

Things to watch

  • If a customer says the discount box isn't there, check this setting before looking at the code itself.
  • Check that the code is spelled and dated as you expect — a code outside its valid dates will be rejected even with the setting on.
